Blade Runner (1982)
A touchstone in genre filmmaking, and sadly one of Ridley Scott's last great accomplishments before years of Hollywood mediocrity (in my opinion). Amazing set pieces. Great character actors. A visually stunning and original view of the future. Harrison Ford. Sean Young, Rutger Hauer, M. Emmett Walsh, E.J. Olmos, William Sanderson, Daryl Hannah. All fantastic.
Seven (1995)
A revolutionary exploration and thoughtful exploding of the conventional crime drama, and the template for a decade of knock-offs, the film kickstarted the career of one of our finest "mainstream" fimmakers and the ubiquity of dark blue-green film saturation use to immediately set a dark and tormented tale.

A personal favorite of mine. For the romantic idealist. A stunning fairy tale brought crashing down to harsh reality. A risky testament to love in the face of great adversity, skillfully infusing all the love and laughter of life along with the horror.
